Getting started with the Student Standard within the COVID-19 context and beyond

Hosted by the Centre for Innovation in Campus Mental Health

“The Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC), in collaboration with CSA Group, has championed the development of the National Standard of Canada for Mental Health and Well-Being for Post-Secondary Students. In addition, MHCC has invested in a Starter Kit to support institutions to align their efforts with the Student Standard.

This session will be useful to those who are considering working with this voluntary standard, with a special focus on the impacts the global pandemic has had on post-secondary institutions. Hear from postsecondary institutions on their experiences in the following areas of the Starter Kit:

  • Getting familiar with the Student Standard,
  • Making the case for working with the Student Standard,
  • Finding a champion,
  • Making plans, and
  • Identifying key stakeholders to engage with.

In this session, participants will be introduced to, and invited to join the community: Centre for Outreach, Resources and Engagement (CORE), which contains a collection of supportive resources created by the Technical Committee, and other related resources, models, and tools to help begin the journey of work with the Student Standard.

In a rapidly changing world, where uncertainty can increase risks to mental health, this new national standard is another tool to further support post-secondary institutions in their efforts to positively impact the mental health and well-being of post-secondary students.”
