Transgender People and Suicide: A Suicide Prevention Toolkit

Shared by Canadian Mental Health Alberta division and Centre for Suicide Prevention

This peer-reviewed toolkit created by the Centre for Suicide Prevention includes information on unique stressors transgender people face, respectful language to use when speaking about gender diversity, risk factors to suicide and suicide risk warning signs. It also includes protective factors that can guard a trans person against thinking about suicide and increase their resiliency through social, legal, medical and community supports. Additionally, this resource includes strategies for individuals to promote their own mental well-being, strategies others can use to support the mental health of transgender people and how institutions can play an active role in ending trans harassment and discrimination.
