Hosted by Healthy Campus Alberta and The Centre for Innovation in Campus Mental Health (CICMH)
December 2, 2026 / 10:00 am - 11:00 am MST
Thoughts of self-harm and suicide are a significant concern among post-secondary students. All members of post-secondary institutions play an important role in suicide prevention by creating campus communities where everyone is treated with respect and can experience a sense of belonging. Created in collaboration with the Canadian Mental Health Association Alberta and the Centre for Suicide Prevention (CMHA + CSP), Healthy Campus Alberta (HCA), and the Centre for Innovation in Campus Mental Health (CICMH), as well as champions of suicide prevention, postvention and mental health in post-secondary campuses across Canada, the Campus Suicide Prevention & Postvention toolkit was created for all members of campus communities to use as part of a coordinated approach to suicide prevention & postvention.
In this webinar, Robert Olson and Tracey Pickup from CMHA + CSP will begin by sharing some context around suicide, suicide prevention, disclosures of care, and responding to disclosures from young people. Julie Porrot from CICMH will then launch into a discussion of the toolkit: how it was created and how post-secondary institutions can use it to strengthen campus-wide capacity to prevent suicide, to support individuals experiencing suicide thoughts and behaviours, and to guide campus communities in responding after a suicide-related incident.
